Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell continue sharing details from the Mica Francis Miller case that the new Netflix documentary “Death of the Pastor’s Wife” didn’t include.
Part One of True Sunlight #165 looks at the friends, acquaintances and assets JP had in his apparent mission to punish Mica for trying to leave him on her terms … not his. When Mandy and Liz first reported on this case in 2024, they knew Horry County Police Department was — how do we put this? — not good.
Police reports obtained through FOIA told the story of a woman repeatedly reaching out for help and being told there was nothing they could do. But after nearly two years covering the Scott Spivey case and HCPD’s corrupt investigation, Mandy and Liz have a whole new perspective: it wasn’t just bad policing … it was policing from an agency known for helping out their friends.
