How To Make A Podcast (and another Hulu show?) About A Hulu Show About Our Podcast!

Have you ever heard of the Lion’s Gate?
And not one of largest and most successful film studios in North America who we’ve had a number of discussions with this year… More to come on all that.
I’m talking about a new concept I learned from my dearest friend Alexandra Armas Tuck from who I’ve learned so much, and who’s birthday we celebrated in True Sunlight #111.
The Lion’s Gate Portal is an astrological event occurring annually between late July and early August, peaking on August 8 (8/8), when the Sun is in Leo, the Earth, and the star Sirius align. This alignment is believed to create a powerful energetic gateway, fostering spiritual growth and providing a potent time for manifestation across all zodiac signs. The “Lion” in the name refers to the Sun’s position in the zodiac sign of Leo, and the date’s numerological significance of the number 8 is associated with abundance, change, and the infinite loop of energy.
Now, I’m not saying I buy into all that, but simply sharing because Alexandra suggested we ask the universe for whatever it is that we wanted in the middle of this year’s Lions Gate… and holy frijoles… we did just that!
In January of this year they started filming the Hulu Original Series based on MMP while David and I started working on how we could best contribute. That’s how the idea for an Official Companion Podcast was born and we started down that road in March, with conversations in earnest at the beginning of June and official pitch meetings in July. And to our surprise, a little terror, and possibly a little nudge from the Lion’s Gate Portal, Universal and Hulu both LOVED the idea.
David worked on navigating front and back channels, pitch decks, pitch meetings, contracts, and so much more… all the while our team was still working feverishly on our coverage of Murdaugh’s appeal, Mica Francis’ case, Lee Gilley’s prosecution in Houston, the Jane Doe lawsuits against JP Miller, Scott Spivey’s killing, RJ May’s alleged sex crimes against children, Nancy Mace versus Alan Wilson, and so much more corruption than you can shake a stick at. Plus booking some amazing guests on Cup of Justice, our Premium-Only Bonus Episodes, and beyond.
For the longest time, we’ve been producing and publishing episodes solely for Luna Shark🦈… and now… we are proudly producing the Official Companion Podcast for Universal Studios Group Audio🌎 and Hulu / Disney 🐭… And That Is a BIG DEAL!

We’ll be interviewing creators, cast and crew from the Hulu show which will likely include Patricia Arquette, Jason Clarke (as Jason and not Alex), Brittany Snow, Johnny Berchtold, Michael D. Fuller, Erin Lee Carr, Joseph La Corte and other amazing people in 8 podcasts to compliment each Hulu episode.
David, Liz and I will Executive Produce this project, as we travel to Hollywood, Atlanta and New York collecting interviews. We know we want to build on existing structures for Companion Pods, but also create enhancements as to how they are consumed. We’re thrilled to be working with our amazing LUNASHARK team, but also welcoming back our friend and talented Director of Photography Eric Alan Daume, plus a cadre of other new faces we’ll introduce soon.
David’s hope is that this audio podcast will be another #1-Ranked Global Hit (that’ll be 3 total for whomever is counting 🙂) and change the game in companion pods while we aim to have the video version publish to Hulu as an After-The-Show-Show.
My hope is that we are able to guide conversations about the Hulu show and bridge the gap between our original reporting on MMP and the drama that unfolds on screen. My loftier goal is to elevate this new pod above just a talk show with famous people… but to highlight wildly important themes in each episode colored by the experiences of those who made it… exposing the emotional truths within the characters and the strengths of the talented people that brought those characters to life in the scripts, through the camera lens and into millions of homes this fall.
At the end of the day, real people, real victims, real trauma will be revisited on everyone associated with the Murdaugh saga… And we plan to best equip all those watching on how to best understand the monumental mission we accomplished… Giving Voice To Victims, Exposing The Truth and Getting The Story Straight (as best we could in just 8 episodes).
So. To Alexandra. My favorite Leo. My best hype girl. My super super super fan. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the Lion’s Gate and thank you for proving to me that there are so many amazing, trustworthy women living to lift each other up with only the best of intentions. And cheers to manifestation… and/or salut to the really hard work and dedication that is necessary to shine the sunlight…. ☀️
