New today, we now have the official copy of the North Carolina Highway Patrol report for the crash that killed Johnnie Junior Jacobs of Lumberton, North Carolina, on March 14, 2025. Jacobs was the fisherman who found Mica Francis’s belongings on the river bank in Lumber River State Park after she died on April 27, 2024.
According to the report, Jacobs was driving eastbound when Winston C. James of Chesterfield, Virginia, reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and t-boned Jacobs’s truck. Jacobs, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Winston James was transported to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence to be treated for his injuries. On March 17, he was charged in Robeson County with failure to stop at a stop sign/flashing red light and misdemeanor death by vehicle. He is due in court on July 30.
