Needless to say, there are A LOT of weird little pieces to the alleged investigation into what led to Weldon Boyd and Bradley Williams’ decision to shoot and kill Scott Spivey on Sept. 9, 2023. Like a lot A LOT. One of the many elements of the case that has stood out to me is HOW this incident was characterized to the press at the time. Horry County Police Department refused to give media Weldon’s and Bradley’s names. And Scott was labeled the “suspect” in the police report that was available to the public at the time. Weldon and Bradley were labeled “the victims.”
Regardless of whether police believed Weldon and Bradley were justified in their shooting, W and B still shot and killed a man. The public had a right to know their names. I think we all know why HCPD didn’t want Weldon’s name out there. With that name would have come accusations of good ole boyism. What’s really weird though is that HCPD’s own internal documents referred to Scott as the victim. And Weldon and Bradley as the suspects. But the press was given a report with the opposite designations. Beyond that, HCPD and solicitor Jimmy Richardson wouldn’t answer questions from the press citing the ongoing investigation. But Weldon was still at the scene of the shooting when he was being told everything was going to be OK. So what investigation was ongoing? The outcome had already been decided before the evidence was known.

Mandy Matney – Journalist and I have gone through all the calls that Weldon recorded on his phone app and (unwitttingly?) turned over to police in November 2023. Tune into True Sunlight Podcast, Exposing Crime And Corruption tomorrow morning for our analysis of Weldon’s calls with the deputy chief of Horry County Police Department in the first 24 hours of the shooting. Bottom line: We’re DONE being gaslit by the powers that be in law enforcement who want all of us to believe that we’re not hearing what we’re hearing or seeing what we’re seeing in this case. And to those with the power to set things right, it doesn’t matter how far you stick your heads in the sand. We’re not afraid of getting dirty and we have no problem shoveling your cowardly noggins out of there so you can get to work and DO YOIR JOBS …
