Peter Strauss Sentenced to 9 Months – Bowen Turner Back In Jail For Now

Happy Sunday!

We were in Charleston this week paying a visit to US District Court to witness Judge Gergel sentence Hilton Head attorney Peter Strauss to 9 months in prison, a $40k fee, $2.7 million restitution and 2 years of “supervision”.

You’ll remember Peter from True Sunlight Episodes 29 and 38 as we explored theories on where Alex’s money could have ‘disappeared’ to and how he might have been paying for his defenses.

As usual, I’ll highlight my regular qualms with the prohibition on recording audio and video in federal court.  While they say it would cause a disruption and potentially endanger witnesses, those challenges are easily overcome with a little planning and forethought.  I suspect it has more to do with a deep fear that we will lose what faith we have left in federal institutions if the greater population was able to see the complete buffoonery that occurs there.

We’ll I’ll start with some highlights of my observations, but we’ll get into all the details on Cup of Justice and True Sunlight this week.

  • Even though he plead guilty, and was sentenced to 9 months in prison, he got to go home Thursday because our federal court system is extremely flawed.   Peter’s attorney Joe Griffith mentioned multiple times that Peter was volunteering at Amanda Onan’s Heritage Academy… teaching the youth of America about business.  And he was so invested in their well-being that he wanted to attend senior graduation in May…. Judge Gergel practically rolled his eyes, and shrugged  his shoulders with a “whatever” vibe and agreed to let Peter begin his sentence June 1st .
  • Peter’s attorney Joe Griffith, said multiple times that one of the reasons he should be let off easy is because he completely separated himself from the Captive Insurance company that helped the Carpoffs and perhaps others hide large amounts of money in off-shore accounts… Judge Gergel asked Joe who is running that company now. The response? His wife Becky (pictured on the right in the image above)… totally separated…
  • In another plea for leniency, Joe Griffith argued that Peter should get credit for fully paying back the Solar energy investment company and did not keep the $2.7 million fee he expected to retain.  Rather he did “take a fee” for his work for the Carpoffs and distributed that money to the Carpoff scheme “victims”. Judge Gergel responded “I don’t expect you not to get paid for work, but you can’t get paid with stolen funds”…

The list goes on and we’ll talk more about it on the shows this week.

On Cup of Justice #118, we talked about Bowen Turner’s return to jail after allegedly day-drinking at a public golf course last week. Also on the show, lawmakers refuse to elect a qualified woman to a judgeship. Why is that? We think we know … Plus, Liz, Eric and I share our thoughts about Congresswoman Nancy Mace’s unprecedented speech on the floor of the US House of Representatives in DC last week accusing four men of sex trafficking, making secret video recordings and raping her, along with other unconscious women.

On True Sunlight #88, Liz and I encountered one of the strangest things we’ve ever seen from a murder suspect who hasn’t even been arraigned yet … a campaign website!

Last week a listener sent in a tip about former South Carolina resident Lee Gilley, who is facing a Capital Murder charge in Houston, Texas, in the October 2024 death of his wife, Christa Bauer and their unborn child. A website had been published about Lee and his life as an apparently flawless human being incapable of murder. It’s yet another brazen move from an entitled good ole boy who thinks the normal procedures of the justice system don’t apply to him.

Also on the show, a follow-up on the YouTube creator who is being sued by JP Miller. Plus, updates on Bowen Turner’s alleged parole violations and Buster Murdaugh’s defamation case.

We also dropped a new Premium Dive episode from Producer Sam Berlin and resident librarian Kate Thomas…    This was part two of our series on information and media literacy, and focused on Artificial Intelligence (Ai). Ai is everywhere…but what exactly is it? and how does it work? In this episode, we break down the four types of Ai, focusing on the two most relevant today: reactive and limited memory Ai. From chatbots and self-driving cars to language models like ChatGPT, we explore how these systems operate, their capabilities, and their limitations.

Lastly, we are excited for this month’s PESKY PICK: I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth V. Michelle Carter from our dear friend Erin Lee Carr.  If you want to join the recording this month, email [email protected] so we can include you!

Stay tuned… because we are just getting started…

As always, your support is immensely appreciated and keeps us motivated to expose the truth wherever it leads, give voice to victims and get the story straight.

Stay Tuned, Stay Pesky, and Stay In The Sunlight…
