Dreams Come True With Julie K. Brown + ATL and Enablers Exposed

Happy Sunday!

Our team has endured a wild and stressful few weeks and it was SO good to enjoy time with Liz and David on Thursday at the Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary (pic below! @yellowriverwildlife)

But those moments aside, I’m feeling emotional thinking about how cool it was to be with my favorite people ever as we embarked on a fantastic journey to the ‘Murdaugh’ set watching absolute magic unfold before our eyes.

You’ll hear it on Girl Talk #23, but Liz and I cannot contain our excitement about the upcoming scripted limited series based on the Murdaugh Murders Podcast…  Seeing our work brought to life on set is absolutely surreal.   But reality hits when we get to celebrate announcements like J. Smith Cameron – who plays Gerri on Succession – joining the cast of the show!!!

But the biggest deal this week was tackling the changing landscape of journalism in the age of social media and misinformation, with Julie K. ‘Effing’ Brown!!!!!   Seriously, since 2018, we have been dreaming of this.  In COJ episode 122, we sat down with the legendary investigative journalist Julie K. Brown, the reporter whose groundbreaking work exposed the horrific crimes of Jeffrey Epstein.

Her reporting for the Miami Herald didn’t just expose a predator – it gave a voice to so many survivors who had been silenced for decades. We dove deep with the woman who proved that persistent, fearless, PESKY journalism can actually change the world.  Check out her book, and social pages below!

Julie K. Brown is a member of the Miami Herald’s Investigative Team. Her 2017 probe into Palm Beach sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein won multiple journalism awards, including a George Polk Award. She was also a member of the Herald’s 2022 Pulitzer-Prize-winning team recognized for its coverage of the Surfside condo collapse.

ALSO this week… on True Sunlight #92 we looked at the very unfortunate death of Johnnie Jacobs, the fisherman who collected Mica Francis’ belongings at Lumber River State Park.  We looked at the potential discrepancies in his ‘story’ and recall the shocking details of the day Mica died.

And perhaps the most rewarding part of this week occurred with SCDC officials ordered 22-year-old Bowen Turner to return to SCDC for one year after holding two hearings on the matter.

“The hearing official recommended Turner return to SCDC and receive intensive addiction treatment while incarcerated,” an SCDC spokesperson said Thursday. “The recommendation was accepted by the SCDC Intensive Supervision Administrative Review Authority today.”

SO… this was slightly good news because I would MUCH RATHER be reporting this than another woman getting hurt because of this man.

THANK YOU to every person who takes sexual assault seriously and demands accountability…  and also each of you for helping us give voice to victims and get the story straight as we expose the truth wherever it leads….

As always, your support is immensely appreciated and keeps us motivated to expose the truth wherever it leads, give voice to victims and get the story straight.

Stay Tuned, Stay Pesky and Stay In The Sunlight…
