Attorneys representing Alex Murdaugh in the Satterfield case filed a Motion to Quash Subpoenas on June 13, 2023 following requests from the Bland Richter Law Firm.

The subpoena request, sent on June 7, commanded information regarding the Murdaugh dogs’ possible involvement in Gloria Satterfield’s fall in February 2018 and about money intended for Gloria’s estate that was instead deposited in Alex’s Bank of America Forge account.

Attorneys representing the Satterfield family also requested copies of documents pertaining to Alex’s confession of judgment on May 31, 2022 and his communications with the following individuals:

  • Gloria Satterfield
  • Anthony Michael “Tony” Satterfield
  • Brian Harriott
  • Nautilus Insurance Company

Murdaugh’s attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin responded to Bland Richter’s request stating that it “constitutes an undue burden” because “plaintiffs have no authority to engage in post-judgment discovery regarding Mr. Murdaugh.”

The motion to quash also stated that Murdaugh’s communications with his attorneys regarding his litigation is protected by attorney-client privilege, “and therefore requires quashal under Rule 45(c)(3)(A)(iii).”

The family of Gloria Satterfield, the Murdaugh family’s late housekeeper, filed wrongful death claims against Alex resulting in a $3.8 million payout from his insurance company, Nautilus.

“To date, the children of Gloria Satterfield have not received the first dollar,” the Satterfield family’s attorneys wrote in court documents filed in September 2021 (linked below).

“The plaintiffs are victims. The plaintiffs are vulnerable. The plaintiffs are scared,” the summons continued. “By this action, the plaintiffs seek real answers to their questions surrounding the death of their mother and the disposition of the monies supposedly paid for their benefit.”
