In her official answer to the ODC, Judge Carmen Mullen says she was just a good citizen worried about a mentally ill man’s safety. In Part Two of True Sunlight #166, Investigative Journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell play the recording from that December 2017 night in Port Royal Plantation and let her own words do the talking.
Mullen tells deputies she has sentenced Ernie “the Attorney” before. She questions whether he has a lease and says she told the homeowner to press charges, then introduces herself to that homeowner… for the first time…? She says “you gotta get rid of him” and asks to “find some charges.” According to the police report, she also suggests she could sign the warrant herself.
We also dig into the threat-filled lawsuit against Ernie that Mullen dismissed months earlier, and a Hilton Head real estate agent named Moose Rini whose name keeps coming up in police reports, trial transcripts, and sentencing memos.
